A home is built slowly

Hearth & Home began in 2014 with one sofa, one workshop and a simple idea: furniture should get better as it gets older.

Our story

From one sofa to eleven workshops

Founders Elena Duarte and Sam Whitlock couldn’t find a sofa that was beautiful, comfortable and built to last — so they asked a third-generation upholsterer outside Porto to make one. Friends asked for one too.

Today we work with eleven family workshops on three continents. We still design every piece in our studio, still order every timber by hand, and still sit on every prototype for a month before it goes on sale.

What we believe

Warm, honest materials

  • Solid hardwood, never particleboard, in every frame
  • Linen, wool and cotton — fibres that breathe and age well
  • Removable covers so a spill never ends a sofa’s life
  • Repair service for every piece we have ever sold
